The Higher Education Loans and Scholarship Board (HELSB), previously called "The Bursary Committee", awards Scholarships every year to qualified high school graduates to study abroad in Algeria, China, Cuba, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Egypt, India, Morocco, Russian Federation, Serbia, Tunisia and Turkey. The scholarships adverts are published on their official social media pages and on their website. These adverts give a detailed guide on how to apply, the requirements, the criteria and other necessary information. The scholarships are awarded on merit and vulnerability. Students intending to study science based programmes (Engineering, Medicine, Computer science, etc) must have taken pure sciences at secondary school. Note that the HELSB no longer gives bursaries at local Universities, they instead give student loans which are different from bursaries. According to the U.S. Embassy in Zambia, The United States Government does not offer any scholarships for international students studying as undergraduates. Exceptional Zambian graduate or post graduate students are encouraged to apply for the Fulbright Fellowship Program, which is directly funded by the United States Government. However, scholarship opportunities are found through their website. From our observation, the scholarships found through the U.S. Embassy are usually for programmes under humanities and social sciences. Click here to access their website.
5. UNIVERSITIES
Some Universities offer scholarships to students. The scholarships range from 25%-100%. These scholarships are usually merit based. CAVENDISH UNIVERSITY is one of universities that offer scholarships.
